Ranger Butch, Warehouse recording engineer, says: "Unknown walk-ons at the second National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in 1985, the Sons Of The San Joaquin have no equal in the world of cowboy harmony singing. Don't expect to hear only flawless covers of Sons Of The Pioneer tunes, although they can do that all night long. They didn't on this night, choosing to perform many of Jack's original compositions, including songs they'd just finished recording a few days earlier for their current release Way Out Yonder. Guitarist Rich O'Brien and fiddler Steve Story add the finishing touches to the show.
A true Cowboys In the Sky footnote: Way Out Yonder was the featured theme for JP Aerospace's recent high-altitude (100,000 ft) balloon launch - you can see the curvature of the earth from up there - yeehaw!"
Players: Jack Hannah (vocals, guitar) Joe Hannah (vocals, upright bass) Lon Hannah (vocals, guitar)
Special Guests: Rich O'Brien (guitar) Steve Story (fiddle)
Family harmony is great to listen to. The Sons songwriting is topnotch. This is another bunch I don`t get to see too often, so I`m glad to have this reminder of why I try to see them live.
