Duos may be all the rage lately in rock, but there’s not too many of ’em swimming over in the jazz-fusion/jam-band side of the pool. Which is probably why Brooklyn’s Benevento/Russo Duo can still be referred to not as a duo but The Duo: as in, keyboard player Marco Benevento and Joe Russo, two friends since childhood whose music is described by Rolling Stone’s David Fricke as “a fusion army at heavy metal volume.” Hot off a breakthrough year in 2005 (highlighted by the release of their acclaimed debut, Best Reason to Buy the Sun, and a string of performances with Phish vet Mike Gordon), the Duo is already hard at work on a new album.
