The second of three nights at New York City’s Beacon Theatre.
The second night of the Beacon this year showcased the wide range of abilities that is RatDog.
The show started with an excited audience and straightforward 18 minute version of Playin’ in the Band. Appropriately hypnotized we were treated to a trippy psychedelic Tomorrow Never Knows. Just so you don’t go too far out Bob brings us back with the raucous Tennessee Jed sing-a-long. Cooling us down with Sitting in Limbo makes us able to handle the ultra cool groove that is West LA Fadeaway, so smooth. The set ends with a rip roaring Big Railroad Blues.
The second set starts with a great acoustic set my highlight being A Hard Rain, powerful song. The Weight and then right into an amazing Eyes of the World featuring must be heard sax trio of Kenny B, Doug Yates, and the amazing George Garzone.
To continue our treat for attending all three shows this year… A Franklin’s Tower Trilogy. It is an all out Hip-HOP-notized song with Franklin’s at it’s base, Alphabet Soup and Band of Brothers Zachariah Mose and Chirs “CB” Burger crank out The River Song to a frenzied audience, don’t take my word for it, get one and check it out. Must have this one!
The show continued though the second set with Dana Fuchs back for a second night to contribute to an emotionally charged Dear Prudence and Dred Scott joining Jeff on Keyboards for the remainder of the night including a slamming China Cat Sunflower / I know you Rider.
In my opinion you can’t loose on this one. Oh yeah did I mention the Casey Jones Encore… Driving that train my brother.
