FestivaLink.net presents The Sundowners Chicago Country Legends

Most of the 24 songs on this release were recorded in the late ‘60s at the Sundowners’ long-time home, Barney’s Ringside Ranch, a downtown honkytonk. Open to hundreds of musical ideas, the trio’s show was visited by Fats Domino, Robert Duvall, John Entwhistle, Sting, in addition to touring country artists.

Like bluegrass music’s Seldom Scene, this was a traditional country band who found repertoire across the spectrum, from George Harrison’s “Something,” to the folk classic “Tom Dooley,” and Bobby Darin’s “Things.”

FestivaLink listeners who have sampled from our trad western collection, Cowboys in the Sky, or the radio stars Riders in the Sky, will find those artists’ creative brothers here, in a basement beer joint around the corner from the Greyhound station in downtown Chicago.
